30+ Years of Musical Experience
Lydia started as a singer in kinder-choir directed by their mother and quickly showed an affinity for music. This sparked them to start learning guitar and percussion. They went on to get a BFA in Multi-Focus Percussion from California Institute of the Arts. As well as a MA in Music Composition from Mills College.
Performed with 20+ ensembles
Lydia has performed with several ensembles is a large variety of styles. Groups of note include: Gamelan Sekar Jaya, Gamelan X, LightBulb Ensemble, Silk Mother, Rabbit Hole Orchestra, WigBand, Golden Path, Verdandia, Maha Balkandara, Tsaba/Supa K, and Chicago Balinese Gamelan.
Composer and Multi-Instrumentalist
As a percussionist, Lydia specializes in anything you hit. But as a life long student, they are constantly exploring new challenges and instruments from around the world. This also informs their compositions.
